University of Iowa Recreational Services – Faculty/Staff Memberships

My name is Mary Heath and I work in the
office of student field experiences in the College of Education. Thomas
Arce coordinator for the Latino Native American Cultural Center. I chose
to get a membership because I work across the street and I thought I would
walk around the track, it would be a good way to kind of get some exercise. I chose
to get a membership with Recreational Services, because it felt convenient for
me working on campus. As a staff member I really enjoy that after work I can come
here to work out. I really like the convenience. I come in the morning, I work
out, I shower, I go to work. I really like the track, the classes, I like the pool.
The benefit for me is that I don’t work a traditional 8 to 5 on campus and so it
allows me the flexibility to come and work out after work or before work. I had
the opportunity to get involved with the liveWell program, and that allowed me to
get engaged with the personal trainer, and so through that program I had the
opportunity to learn a little bit more about how to use some of the services as
a part of Rec Services. Well I really like the incentive program because I get
50% back of my membership in my check, I don’t have to worry about paying ahead
or anything, it just automatically comes out, and I don’t miss it.
Recreational Services and liveWell partnered together to provide an
incentive program for the University of Iowa faculty and staff. The incentive
program requires the faculty/staff to take a personal health assessment each
year and scan into any one of our facilities at least four times a month
to receive 50% off of their membership. As a faculty/staff at the University of
Iowa, receiving a Rec Services membership allows access to the Campus Recreation
and Wellness Center, the Field House, the Hawkeye and Tennis Recreation Complex, and Fitness East. Members can participate in group fitness,
personal training, sports clubs, intramural sports, rowing, tennis, aquatic
programming, outdoor programming.
