Travel is about moments, big small and everything
in between. I’m Courtney Scott. Come on, let’s roam! Why do you travel? Is it to explore
an iconic city? To do something you’ve never done before? Or to feast on local cuisine?
As I look back at 2013 I’ve realized one of the best ways to experience a culture is through
its food. Being invited into someone’s kitchen, taking a seat at a dive bar, making a pit
stop and discovering a local delicacy. It’s about more than just a meal, it’s a memorable
travel moment in the making. And here are some of my favorites. In St. Croix I happened upon Ruki’s Roti and
learned this place was more than just a food truck, it was a love story. The Ruki’s got
married in their teens and have been cooking together ever since. In Bogota, Colombia, food brings friends together
every weekend at Andres Carne de Res. And while the night begins with delicious steak
and arepas, it always ends in a party! This one was unforgettable. But in small town New Mexico, there was all
the time in the world to enjoy the simple pleasure of a classic American ice cream cone. My trip to Texas was just plain gluttonous,
attemping to try every taco in Dallas in just one day. And in New York City I got a very
delicious taste of two co-existing cultures, Chinatown and Little Italy. So from everyone
at Travelocity, my wish for you is that you go. Go and Smell the Roses. Make a toast to
travel, and have a very Happy New Year!
