The Lone Ranger | New Mexico Hot Air Ballooning | Let’s Roam

Travel is about moments. Big, small and everything
in between. I’m Courtney Scott, come on. Let’s Roam!
Right now I’m in the middle of nowhere but just a few months ago this was the very spot
where Disney shot their newest blockbuster, The Lone Ranger. This was the town of Colby.
It was there, and now it’s gone. The town of Colby was quite elaborate, built
from the ground up to include stables, saloons, a, bank, a sheriff’s office, shops and a train
station. Thats the magic of Hollywood.
But what remains is the vast beauty of the Rio Puerco, and one of the most spectacular
ways to see it is from a hot air balloon. Today I’m with the gang from the Albuquerque
International Balloon Fiesta. They’re gonna show me the ropes.
This is Ray, he’s been flying balloons for 35 years.
The interesting part, is you never know quite how it’s gonna end. We knew where we started,
but have no idea where we’re going to end this adventure.
The sun is just perfect, we’re getting an incredible view of the mountains off in the
distance, the scrub brush and the cows below, and the beautiful yellow balloon above us.
Albuquerque is one of most famous places in the county to try hot air ballooning. It’s
home to the Albuquerque international balloon fiesta, the largest hot air balloon festival
I the world, where every October hundreds of balloons streak the sky with color.
Right now how far off the ground are we? Right now we’re about 500 feet off the grond.
And we’ll soar how high? Uh, as high as you want! We can go up to about 14,000 feet before
you need oxygen. We’ve reached our cruising altitude and before
we know it we’re flying over the location where the town of colby was created. You can
still see the train track that was built to surround the entire town.
Check out the town of Colby on the big screen in Disney’s The Lone Ranger. In Theaters now!
