Tamara, Recreation and Leisure Services Graduate

[MUSIC] My name is Tamara El-Farr, and
I graduated from the Recreational & Leisure Services Program at
Algonquin College in May of 2015. I’m currently now employed with Prince
of Wales retirement community by Rivera, and I’m the director of recreation. So I’m pretty much in charge of all
the day to day activities that go on in the building with retirement and
assisted living services. I also house any special events
entertainment, music, trivia, all those fun things that our residents
take part in from day to day. Obtaining my recreation leisure services
diploma was probably one of the greatest things that I’ve done in my life so far. It’s definitely helped
me advance in my career. Now working at a retirement
home as a recreation director, it has definitely helped me taking
my career to the next step. And towards wanting to improve
the quality of living in older adults. All of my classes that I
took in the Recreation and Leisure Services program have definitely
helped me excel in different areas. Including how to work with individuals
in health care, how to program different programs for certain populations,
whether it be individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals
that have a physical disability or something along the lines of dementia,
like what I work with. So the program really helped me take
my career just to the next level and that’s definitely what
I needed in my life. [MUSIC]
