This is Poly Life. I’m Ajouraye Jefferson.
We’re here at the 10th Annual Songwriter Showcase. Let’s go check it out.
Why a songwriter showcase? There’s no other venue like this to show the
creativity of Cal Poly students. There are many venues that show the talent of Cal Poly
students. But this is one that really shows what individual songwriters can do with their
own material when working with other students as well.
Most people go to concerts expecting one type of music played throughout the entire hour-two
hours-how ever long the set is. In this case we have about two hours of pretty much everything
different. So we’re just taking things to a whole expanded level.
I feel like this is just a great way for people who aren’t… You know like us music majors,
we get to express ourselves every day you know. But there are people who in majors that
maybe they can’t, this is a great outlet for them to be able to do that. And in an environment
that I feel is really safe. The comradely that happens backstage and everyone’s just
talking to each other and you kinda build like a family when you do this. And so it’s
nice to just experience that together with these people who you’ve grown to love over
the past 10 weeks. And you just get to support them and root for them offstage.
Oh it’s gotten better. The songs are getting better. The performers are getting better.
The way it’s run is getting better. The rehearsals are getting better. Everything.
So you get people from all over campus and getting together and making music together.
I think that’s truly a bonding thing between our different majors right now. I mean, we
as Cal Poly students, we pride ourselves on being a community right, we pride ourselves
in like the whole “learning by doing”, learning hands on kind of thing. And I think that kinda
goes into the bringing together-bring people together- and then working together as a team.
There you have it. This has been the 10th Annual Songwriter Showcase. I’m Ajouraye Jefferson
and this is Poly Life. Your campus right now!
