Snapshot: Ryerson Athletics and Recreation

Hi Rams! I’m Karin and today on Snapshot, we’re going
to take a closer look at athletics and recreation here at Ryerson. So let’s get started! Actually, hold on. Much better! Let’s get started. As a Ryerson student, you get to use your OneCard to access both of our gyms at no additional cost. This is the Recreation and Athletics Centre
and we also have the Mattamy Athletic Centre, but we just call them the RAC and the MAC. At the RAC you’ll find a weight room, a cardio
room, a track, ping pong tables, a squash court, a pool, change rooms, lockers and two
gyms that you can use for various reasons. But, as you can tell, I’m no expert so let’s
talk to somebody a little more qualified. I’m Andrew Pettit. I’m the Manager of Recreation at Ryerson Athletics. I’m actually brand new to Ryerson. I started a couple of months ago and one of
the most fantastic things that’s readily apparent when you show up here is that there’s something
for everyone. So whether it be a traditional sport experience
or an opportunity to get out and move and be active in a way that maybe you didn’t have
an opportunity in high school or earlier in your life, there’s opportunities here. Whether it’s the pool or fitness classes,
instructional program or the traditional weight rooms and cardio centres and basketball and
soccer and volleyball gyms. For all people, getting active, finding a
way to move and be part of a community, it’s critical to both our physical health but also
our mental health and being part of a social community. And I think being a part of recreation can
be a big part of that for all students. My name is Randy Pipher and I’m the Coordinator
for the intramural program at Ryerson. So the intramural program is basically for
the students at Ryerson to participate in the sports leagues that they participate in
all their life, kind of thing. We have all the various different sports. So we’ve got soccer, basketball, dodge ball,
football, ice hockey. I think ultimately it’s just coming out and
enjoying yourself and getting the true experience of university. You can be a beginner, maybe you’ve never
even tried volleyball or basketball before, but come out and give it a try and I think
you’ll have some fun. Welcome to the MAC. Once home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, today
you can find our hardworking varsity athletes here as well as the Coca-Cola Court and our
full-size, gorgeous ice rink. Don’t forget that any student can use the
weight rooms here or the gyms and with your OneCard, you can access all the Rams games for free! Make athletics and recreation a part of your
experience here at Ryerson University! Follow @RURecreation and @ryersonrams for
more information and I hope to see you at our next Rams game. Thanks for watching!
