Sharing a Hunting Tradition from Sacramento River Bend

Today was the 27th year that the Redding BLM Office, Shasta County Sportsman’s Association and California Department of
Fish and Wildlife were able to co-sponsor a youth pheasant hunt. This
was a great hunt for heritage and tradition of hunting America’s public
lands. This is a great opportunity for people who haven’t been able to experience hunting to be able come out and kind of learn the basics, learn some hunter safety and be able to enjoy a day of hunting and harvesting some nice
pheasants. My name is Jesse Lane, I brought two of
my sons out here, my 16 year old son and my 13 year old son. This is something
that BLM has put on for what I know of about 27 years. I came out here as a kid.
used to do this youth pheasant hunt in the Bend area. It’s a great
opportunity for my kids to be able to do something that I grew up doing as a
kid. It a great pheasant hunt, a lot of kids get to shoot pheasants. My favorite pat of today was getting to shoot at least. Last time I was pheasant hunting I didn’t get to shoot once. Got myself a little peasant, probably the best part. But it’s also seeing someone who came out with a dog. It was fun watching it point where the
pheasant was. Today was great since we got to come out and hunt public land and just hang out with everybody. Yeah it’s a great
opportunity for our youth to come out and you know practice American heritage
and you just have a blast hunting. Today was great because we were able to harvest dinner and food for myself and my family. Seeing my brother getting a
pheasant, I sadly didn’t get a pheasant but I feel I got one and that’s pretty
cool. I would like to thank BLM and everyone associated with it for letting us come out here and hunt for the youth pheasant
hunting and I just wanted to say that it’s a great thing to do and it it was a
blast having the opportunity to come out here
in group and just hunt with a whole bunch of other people.
