School of Hospitality Recreation and Tourism

(upbeat music) – If you’ve ever dreamed of
working in a five star hotel or maybe owning your own
restaurant, pub or bistro or maybe travel is
what you’ve dreamed of and you want to work in
a hotel or restaurant somewhere in the world
with an international hospitality organization, then
Humber is the place for you. The outlook for jobs in
the hospitality industry is extremely positive. The projectionists state
that in the next 10 years, we’re not gonna
have enough people to fill all the jobs that are
available in the industry. (upbeat music) – There are three
key things in my mind that make our program different. One is our faculty, two our
diversity in our classroom and three how we really make
it real for our students. – We have fantastic
faculty that have already had a tremendous career in
the hospitality business and now we’re here
to work with you, to help you achieve your goals. – All of them are
extremely experienced and they love and they’re
passionate about their jobs, current trends and
it’s very interesting to get the know-how of
all the diverse companies that do come in. (upbeat music) – I actually chose Humber
because of Kirsty Adams. I met her at a
college fair and once I started speaking to her,
she told me about the program and honestly I fell
in love with it and ever since then
I thought it was the best choice of my life. – I love the students, I
absolutely love the teachers you know it just is
an absolute privilege to be taught under them. – I really love
our mixology labs and the state of the art,
places we get to work. – The best thing I
like about Humber is actually the Humber room. – What we try and do
in this room is we give the students a
real-world experience, we give them
opportunities to take on all the different
roles in the industry that apply to food and beverage. They take on roles as
managers, bartenders, servers, food runners. (upbeat music) – I was able to take
part in the City TV breakfast television segment
for the bed making competition. Another hospitality
management student and myself competed
against Ryerson as well as the
Pantages housekeepers and we were able to win
the competition at a time of 1.09 seconds. – We also have study
abroad opportunities where you can go to
Europe and to Taiwan. (upbeat music) – I connect the students
with our industry partners to secure their internships. We work with lots of
different types of companies, banquet halls,
hotels, restaurants in virtually every
department you can imagine. – I’m super excited. I’m going to be going into
the housekeeping department at the Sheraton Gateway. – I was able to network
with Deerhurst Resort which was one of my dream hotels and I was able to
work there last summer and have been offered a
position of supervisor. – We have employers
all across the country and they come back asking
for our best students. – I’ve worked for
other institutions but I wanted to match
myself with an institution that will stay current and
will provide the opportunities for our students
as they move out into their future careers. – Our curriculum,
our faculty, our labs and the experiences that
you will have at Humber will get you prepared
for that promising career in the
hospitality industry.
