My name is Jeff Yale. I am the program specialist for the Regional Water Authority The RWA own or maintains nine different recreation areas. There
are over 50 miles of hiking trails contained on these properties. There are three lakes that you are allowed to fish in and one where we rent boats. The trails are open to hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter and There are three properties that we allow
mountain biking on the trails. Lake Saltonstall is one of the trophy bass lakes in Connecticut, we also stock walleye in the lake. Besides the largemouth bass and
walleye there you can catch trout, yellow perch, white perch, crappie, and bluegills in the lake. We do not allow personal boats or any other sort of watercraft. We are trying to keep the zebra mussels and other exotics out of the water This is a drinking water supply so it is
maintained and we do have to follow specific rules put out there by the
Department of Public Health To have access to the Regional Water Authority
recreation property a person must purchase a recreation permit from the
Regional Water Authority We sell daily permits for Lake Saltonstall on the days that we staff the lake. That pass in addition to getting you access to our properties also lets you participate indifferent special events that we have We have a photo contest that we run every year, we do a Christmas tree cutting event at Lake Gaillard which isn’t open to the
public generally so it’s a special time in a special place that permit
holders get access to and its a cut your own Christmas tree We also have a big fish contest for the whole rec area Any fish of every species can be entered
into this contest to win a prize at the end of the year for all of our permit
for the past few years we have an open house at one of our recreation properties trying to get families out into nature It is free to the public to get people access to come down and check out our property before they decide to purchase a permit. First and foremost we are drinking water company so clean water is our main concern with recreation as a secondary concern
