I’m a recreational therapy major. Getting ready to start my 4th year here, so pretty exciting. A lot of the people who I hang out with now I met through my major. It’s nice to not be lost in the crowd. It’s nice that the class sizes are smaller, so professors know you and the students know you sort of like a family atmosphere. I don’t feel as though, because I’m a commuter, I’m missing out on anything. Indiana Tech does a good job of making commuters feel just as welcome and as important as, say, someone from a different state. I did my practicum at a retirement home in Indiana. I’ve always gotten a joy out of working with the elderly. That’s just always been me. I got to do a lot of different things that we talked about in class and gotten to actually do them hands on which was exciting and it reminded me that I’ve made the right decision and this is definitely what I want to do for my career. If I could give advice to any incoming freshman, my advice would be to use your resources as soon as possible. There are so many people here that are willing to help you; admissions counselors, professors, the tutoring center, librarians. It made my freshman year so much better.
