Recreation and Wellness Center at UAFS

This is the new Recreation and Wellness Center otherwise known as the RaWC, And some new features that we have here that we didn’t have at the old one are there are now two giant studio rooms for people to use, There’s going to be dance classes. There is a running track above the basketball court for people to run around and exercise on and watch other people exercise below them. There’s a rock wall and bouldering wall for students to enjoy during certain hours of the day, which I’m very excited about and a lot of the other students are excited about as well. The students are very excited for this new recreation and wellness center, while the other wellness center was nice, there were some complaints that there wasn’t enough room And people would have to wait for certain equipment. Here there is ample room for everyone and there are a lot better hours That way students can come at any hour of the day to use the equipment and live a healthier lifestyle wherever their schedule fits. Exercising and working out really helps enhancing your abilities as a student because sometimes when you’re really stressed out you really just need to get away And go run some laps around the track, need to go climb the rock wall, need to go bike some, and so it really helps students focus Also, healthy living just promotes better well-being as a whole. And so you’re healthier and so your whole lifestyle kind of goes up in that effect. The Student Government Association was issued a challenge by Dr. Beran, and we balloted the student body and polled and worked the campaign for weeks And over 2,000 people voted, which is about 30% of the student body, and they proposed that this center would be built. It’s amazing to be here now, because out of the people who originally voted on that in the SGA, maybe only one remains So I think it’s rewarding that even though they’re gone, they gave this to us and future generations. And so I hope that we give things to future generations after us.
