Recreation and Leisure Services – International Sports Fair

Recreation and Leisure Services – International Sports Fair

(upbeat pop music) – Today, our second year
recreation and leisure services students, as part of their
event management class, they organize the international sport fair at Humber College. – We’re supporting Right to
Play, which is an organization that provides programming for
kids in third world countries. We’ve set up a bunch of
different activity booths. They’re all themed around
a sport and a country. If either that’s your sport
or from where you come from or you want to try a new one,
our goal is to get people out and learn about the sports
and the organization that we’re supporting. – I was handling a pie in
the face booth where for $2 I would get a pie in the
face just for the charity. It was painful, but seeing
people laugh and smile when they pass by,
that’s all I cared about. – It’s been a lot of fun so far today. The raffle’s going really well. We’ve had a lot of people
participate in the activities with sports that they’ve played before. It’s going off better
than I expected it to. – What’s amazing about this
class, it’s really student led and it’s up the students
to design the entire event, right from their event
pitch, what is the concept gonna look like, right to execution today. – There’s only so much you
can teach in a classroom, but until you actually do it,
you’re not gonna really know what that looks like so having
things like this as part of our courses is fantastic
and it’s one of the reasons why I like the program so much. – I would definitely recommend
the program to anyone who’s interested in
recreation and leisure. Just helping out. Constantly finding ways
to help small communities or small organizations that
really can’t help themselves. It’s a blessing.
