PLU Student Perspectives: Nate’s take on recreation

(upbeat instrumental music) – Oh, hey there future Lutes. It’s me, Nate. We’re here in Red Square and today we’re gonna talk about campus recreation. (hand slapping) We’re here in the Columbia Center, which is the home of PLU Recreation. This is also specifically our home of PLU Outdoor Rec, which is why Murphy the PLU Rec mascot lives out here. This is a space that has been recently renovated to be the total home of Outdoor Recreation. All things outdoor recreation happens out of this space now. All the equipment lives
here that you can rent. Backpacks, snowshoes, ski poles, bikes, climbing equipment. Also camping and tents and things. All available for students to rent if they need to go out for a weekend. PLU has outdoor rec student trip leaders that will take students on trips all throughout the school year. There are a ton of trips
so it can be really easy and also very affordable
to get outside and see the lovely area that we live around. (balls bouncing) Hey there. We’re here in the storage of our intramural facilities. You can see by all the different equipment we have here we have a huge variety of intramural sports available for all of our students. Basketball, spike ball, volleyball, we have a ton of things
available for students. (whooshing) We’re here in the pool, which is home to maybe our wildest intramural sport, inner tube water polo. It’s just as wild as you’re imagining it. Here at our pool we rent out like 50 inner tubes for the winter. Everyone makes teams of
five and people float around and try to swim
while playing water polo. It’s really fun and it’s great. Easy to make a team cause
it’s a smaller team. And it’s just a lot of fun, that’s all. (thump of flying disc) Club sports is my favorite part of campus recreation. I’m one of the captains of our men’s ultimate Frisbee
team here on campus, which is just one club sports team that we have here. PLU has men’s and
women’s ultimate Frisbee, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s wrestling. All these teams are
teams that have coaches, they practice multiple times a week, as well as then they
compete in the regional and sometimes national level. Our Frisbee team this
year is really hoping to be competitive and
earn a bid to nationals. And we’re really hoping
we can put the work in to make that happen. (peppy instrumental music) Those three things that
we just covered are three aspects of Campus Recreation. I hope that you found
something that you might be able to enjoy when you’re here at PLU. If you have any questions
about Campus Recreation please leave us a comment
so we can get that answer back to you. If you wanna see any
other topics here at PLU, let us know so that we can have someone cover those for you. Once again, I’m Nate. Thanks for watching. (upbeat instrumental music)
