Outdoor Recreation @ UTSC – Anyone can be an athlete

I remember in first year I joined the Treetop Trekking when it was late fall or one of those times. And before that I was just like, you know, go to school, study, go home, study. But then once you find, hey there’s an Outdoor Rec trip, it’s something that you can do on or off campus and it’s just nice to be able to experience and see the other world instead of, you know, home, school, homework, study, exams, stress. [ Music ] The top two things that continuously bring me back to Treetop Trekking would be the people and the adrenaline. They’re honestly just so much fun. I could go alone and I would meet a bunch of new people. It didn’t really matter who you were because no one judged, and everyone just talked to each other and make a bunch of new friends, a bunch of new memories, and the best part is when I go back to campus I see these people and we just say hi, like we’ve been long lost friends. I don’t go to gym a lot. I’m not really a big person. I really like to have fun though. And when going on these outdoor events you combine fun, excitement, and physical endurance so I get a workout and I have fun at the same time. Any student no matter what size, what build, what gender, how tall, how short, anyone can do it. So there’s definitely no limit on who can come and who cannot. Going with all the events that athletics and recreation host, I feel like I developed a lot of skills that would definitely benefit me and my future. One of them would be taking initiative. I’ve never went treetop trekking, or also rock climbing, or whitewater rafting, I’ve never went on any of these events. But I had to take the courage and the initiative to go and try it on my own first. And definitely when I’m in the future I would have that same courage because, hey I signed up with Treetop Trekking alone, I know that I’m usually with great people, I will learn a lot of new things, and it’s a great experience. I totally think that other students should get involved with Outdoor Rec because it’s just a whole other world out there. When you’re loaded in school with all these assignments and they just keep stacking on top of each other, after you’ve done all of it you just feel extremely stressed and tired, even when you’ve done them. But once you go on one of these trips it’s like a reset button and you just come back to school all focussed, all motivated, because you just had the time of your life. Next time when midterms come again you just go on another trip. So it’s really nice that the school organizes all these events and basically all you have to do is show up to see a whole other world out there. [ Music ]
