Model Airplane Event

Model Airplane Event

We’ve issued a permit to the Academy
of Model Aeronautics to have a model airplane competition out here where
they’re gonna try to fly these planes and give them a maximum glide time of up
to I think four minutes. The process for issuing a permit for us is a permitee
and applicant would come in 180 days at least 180 days before the event and
then we would then look at the application along with an operations
plan and map and review it and basically see if where they want and what they’re
trying to do is compatible with the management direction for that particular
area in this instance they came in applied it’s a fairly non impactful
event with you know a pretty small group of folks who I think the area they chose
make perfect sense for what they’re trying to do. The goal on these airplanes
is duration and since they all have pretty good duration the flights are
divided up into rounds normally one hour of rounds you make one flight per hour
and for the small models the maximum moments two minutes if you keep it up
for two minutes you get a max you go on for the next round if you get five maxes
in a row then you go to into a fly off and the first flight is three minutes
rather than two and the second fly off round is four minutes rather than two
and if they’re still clean after seven maxes then we take the early morning
espresso fly off time to make the decision on who wins.
We just finished a world championship over in California and and we had a
world cup contest as well so everyone’s kind of worn out but we wanted to attach
this contest on to the world championship so that the international
fliers could come fly with us and see Las Vegas. This is one of those events
where we don’t get it very often but there’s obviously the demand is here for
that kind of use so you know where we have OHV races will have OHV tours
through here this is definitely a different and unique activity on public
lands.
