Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region: Summer Vacation Tour

Hello, I am Shannon and I welcome you to join
me in my exploration of Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region. It is a rare treat to visit
a location that nurtures both outdoor adventure, fast paced entertainment, and eclectic, sophisticated
towns and cities. Encompassing the cities of Bay City, Birch
Run, Chesaning, Frankenmuth, Midland, and Saginaw, Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region
is the perfect getaway for romance, or a family vacation filled with activities and adventure.
Whether you want to have a spontaneous ‘mini vacay’ or plan a more extensive stay to
explore the region, there is so much to discover no matter your interests. I love exploring landscapes and immersing
myself in nature. Whether you want to see the region’s breathtaking wilderness known
as the Everglades of Michigan, beautiful Lake Huron better known as the region’s freshwater
ocean, or stroll through pristinely manicured gardens, the natural side of this region will
delight your senses with its raw and delicate beauty. Founded in 1899 by Herbert Dow and developed
as a creative outlet for his personal passion and interest in agriculture and design, the
beautiful Dow Gardens in Midland are open for visitors to enjoy. Dow’s philosophy
for the development and enjoyment of the gardens was: “Never reveal the gardens’ whole
beauty at first glance.” This mission statement has been honored to this day and is an invitation
to lose yourself in the beauty of this remarkable architecture. There are many activities to enjoy on Bay
City’s Saginaw Bay. From sailing and pontoon boats to speedboats or personal watercraft,
all are available options here for recreation and fun on the waterfront.
One iconic way to explore Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay is with an Appledore tall ship ride over
this freshwater ocean. Let’s cast off and enjoy this spectacular experience!
Back on dry land, the Tridge in Midland is a three-way pedestrian footbridge, which acts
as a connector for more than 1,000 kilometers of rail trails. It marks the spot where two
waterways, the Chippewa and Tittabawassee rivers meet. Walk, skateboard, bike or rollerblade
over this unique foot bridge and get some fresh air and sunshine with the family.
And, finally, the shopping is fantastic in the Great Lakes Bay. Birch Run Premium Outlets
has 145 stores, including many top brands at incredible prices, for you to shop and
enjoy in an outdoor setting. I have loved my visit to the Great Lakes Bay
Region. Between the incredible nature and water activities, shopping and world-famous
dishes, I can’t wait to come back to this unique part of Michigan.
