  • Woody Harrelson as Archie? Marissa Tomei as Edith? Seriously? Might as well cast Peter Dinklage as Lionel. Or how about Stacey Abrams as Gloria?

  • Laquever Fryar says:

Didn’t see all in the family the Jefferson’s was corny Jamie Fox was the only person who resemble anyone he did George justice …. Lionel was horrible he looked nothing like the original and wonda I was shocked she didn’t do better🤦🏽‍♀️

One cannot do any justice if we forgot to mention the great writer and producer of these two shows – Norman Lear. This man is the G.O.A.T. producer of the following classic TV sitcoms (and every single one of them is a classic): All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time and Maude. Norman Lear was a genius. The true G.O.A.T.

  • H K Lionheart says:

Used to love these shows. They are two of the classics. Another one was Good Times. And then there was Sanford & Son. The character Archie Bunker was the polar opposite of the real-life Carroll O'Connor. The late O'Connor was a very compassionate, caring and loving man who fought for equality and people's rights. He was nothing at all in real life, like that racist, foul-mouthed and bigoted character (Archie Bunker) that he played on the show. The two were total opposites! But old Carroll O'Connor was such a great actor and he played that Archie role so perfectly, that people bought into the character and some even thought that was the real him. Watched the special last night and loved every single minute of it. Great acting. Brought back great memories. The quality of acting back then was so good it was ridiculous.

  • the last line in Jeffersons which i knew was coming How come nobody told me we overcame sounded real lame coming from an 90 yr old Marla Gibbs. When she first said it back in the 70s she said it with spunk and if was funny back then. If you watch the original clip from the 70s there was a loud roar from the audience after she said it Not so much last night. That tells you that racism was full force center stage back then Not so much now aday Trust me i was around back then to verify

  • I like the idea that they came up with about bringing these two shows back, but I don't agree with the cast that they put together to play these characters. I guess since it was a last-minute idea they couldn't take weeks or months the cast the right people which is the norm for Hollywood.

  • Shawn Schmittgen says:

Great shows in the 70's full of social-consciousness (I was a young teen then). As a 60+ something now, I wanted to say, 'Kudos' to all of the actors in their portrayals. I really enjoyed their performances.

  • Maddog No Good says:

Why would they bring back these two particular shows in a time and climate where just everyone gets offended by everything?

  • Gregory Akin says:

Jimmy Kimmel is a no talent bum get a life. And how about leaving the old shows alone you cannot make them better or as good. Just a generation jealous of another generation. You already ruined other old shows and movies. No originality or creativeness to create good new shows or music for that matter.

  • Harrison Blum says:

Since they did all in the family and the Jefferson's live they should recreate 2 more shows live they should do good times and 227 and Sanford and son 3 in 1 night.

In my opion did not cut it , these remakes are never as good as the originals. I was really disappointed watched for 1/2 hr and got bored , could not take it anymore SORRY !

  • If you have not seen it, watch, watch watch, on demand -great fun Marisa and Jamie did great job channeling characters as well as whole cast. I think the director toned down some of the emphatic responses to fit today's crowd, but what fun to travel back in time and see relevance to today.

  • The all in the family skit wasn't that great, the only reason why the Jeffersons skit was a little better is because Marla Gibbs surprised everybody repricing her role as Florence Johnston Jamie Foxx is an Oscar winner yet forgot his lines and Kerry Washington probably did the best as Helen Willis….. with Marla and Jackee together, there was almost a 227 moment, if Regina King was in this skit, there would have been a 227 and a Ray moment

  • The shows should continue with rotating stars doing the roles.

    Line up David Alan Grier, Keenan Wayans for George Jefferson;
    Jackee' for "Weezie";
Sub in Wanda Sykes for Florence -(no NBA in primetime so there's my reference)…
Jim Carey for Mr. Bentley; etc.

Use "The Conners" as the lead in and use "In Living Color" as the nightcap. Primetime gems!

  • Steve Sanzari says:

Jimmy Kimmel evidently never heard theexpressions " Some things should be Left alone " and " let Sleeping Dogs Lie !" Again it shows how Hollywood is Talentless and Unoriginal ! The Actors last Night were trying to be the actors , not the characters ! You can never imitate perfection ! The original actors worked together as a well oiled machine ! Last nights actors were like Amateurs out of Sync of who they were supposed to be ! Tell Jimmy Kimmel Hollywood is OVER ! Tinsel town is Now Tarnished Town ! Nice try Jimmy but No Cigar !

  • Kimmel is the worst no talent hack ever. All of that funny talent sitting there and he can’t even interview them properly. What an idiot!!

  • Innocent Spectator says:

I dont remeber George Jefferson having a Brother.. Woody Harrrolson shldv been Mr. Bentley on the Jeffersons.. Isn't it nice that Marla Gibbs can still play Florance…. What's next Good Times & Three's Company😄

  • David Claytor says:

At a time of hyper political correctness ABC reboots two shows that were anything but…let's see if they still are. 😂

  • Anthony Varwig says:

This was amazing Marisa Tomei & Woody Harrelson did an excellent job. Wish they would do more episodes

  • Historian212 says:

Woody Harrelson was the real weak point of this event. Quite awful, and his attempt at a NYC accent was an embarrassment. Overall, the actors who tried to imitate the originals too closely came off as fake and caricatures. The original cast was so good because you believed in the characters. Jennifer Hudson’s performance of “Movin’ on Up” was great, though, a real high point.

  • No Lies. I cried at the start of the shows. I felt so Proud to see these two shows again….. 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖 💖

  • The way everyone is talking about Wanda playing Florence, sounds like George cheated on Wheezie and ended up with Florence.

  • The remade shows were absolutely PAINFUL to sit through. Just AWFUL. Do not ever attempt this again. You can't just remake shows like these, where every character was iconic and the actors were irreplaceable in their roles. It was truly embarrassing to watch.

  • Very interesting that Jimmy would congratulate Elle on her current state of pregnancy. . . . .why would Jimmy, who believes that children are not "real" until actual birth congradulate her. Especially if he doesn't believe she has a living child inside of her.

  • Robert Meulemans says:

Why not try to write a new show that is current and not just a cheap knock off that ruins the original?

  • Tim Bonderud says:

I am in Canada, and never did find the All in the Family special on ABC here. Do you know if it was available in Canada ? Thanks

I missed this when it was originally broadcast but was happy that I had the opportunity to watch it by chance while flipping throughout the channels tonight.  Unfortunately I found the "All In The Family" skit almost painful to watch.  The casting was all wrong and I just didn't enjoy it at all.  Jamie Foxx as George Jefferson was one of the saving graces.  The "Jeffersons" was not quite as painful as Marla Gibbs made a cameo which completely saved the skit.  I''ve seen spoofs of "All In The Family" and the "Jeffersons" before and it was way better than this.  They should have taken more time to hire the right people without necessarily focusing hiring celebrities to play the parts.  I was more than a bit disappointed.

  • It was ok, but ‘The Jeffersons’ had way too much screen-time w/out significantly more George. Jamie Foxx made me piss my pants in his opening scene before he said his first line.

I cannot understand the episode selection from ‘The Jeffersons’, though I rarely watched the show. My point is that it simply was not funny or entertaining.

The collaboration between shows was perfect, and I’d ask for more even if it was 5-hours long. Jennifer Hudson could have sang the intro after any commercial break w/out controversy, bc she was magnificent.

I really enjoyed the first part, but sadly felt bored and confused by what I felt was a huge missed opportunity on every level. God Bless.

  • Tim DuMoulin says:

They can't make any quality films anymore thanks to political correctness and feminists, so all they have is to try and copy classic TV to get any ratings. Just pathetic.

  • I say shotgun, you say wedding says:

This is the age of the recycled movie/t.v. script. I don't know if I should be concerned that my generation has absolutely no creative motivation other than to rehash the past.

  • I watched the whole hour and a half and would’ve watched for three! The nostalgia was so real!!! I laughed, sang, and cried when the @real Florence popped up and Jamie Foxx held back tears. Freakin AWESOME.! Marissa Tomes was everything! Loved Woody and Marissa singing!; Kerry Washington was so beautiful in her role; and Jennifer Hudson!….What do you say to that performance🙌🏼
    THANKS JIMMY!

  • Dante Ferrise says:

WOW SUCH A GREATTT, FUNNY, AND TALENTED CAST!!! WANDA JUST MAKES ME HAPPY WHICH IS IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY IN TODAYS WORLD OF ALL NEGATIVITY….MARISA TOMEI IS VERY UNDERRATED! SHE CAN BRING A LOT TO SOMETHIHG LIKE THIS!, ELLIE KEMPER AND WOODY HARRELSON ARE JUST THE GREATEST HOW THEY REALLY TRANSFORMS THEMSELVES INTO CHARACTERS BUT STILL MANAGING TO BRING THEMSELVES OUT IN THE ROLE TOO….IKE BARENHOLTZ, ANTHONY ANDERSON, JAMIE FOXX, KERRY WASHINGTON, WILL FERREL, ETC ETC ETC THEE ENTIEE CAST IS JUST PHENOMENAL!! IT IS SO RARE TO GET THIS MANY AMAZING BIG NAME ACTORS AND ACTRESSES TO BE A PART OF A PROJECT LIKE THIS

  • Why would Jimmy Kimmel revisit all in the family? All in the family is about open dialogue about actual social problems. Jimmy is about calling ppl racist

  • Robert Motión says:

  • HiPetitGateau says:

I wish they had not done impressions of the originals if they had acted like they normally do i mean Jamie fox has an ‘oscar’ is too twitchy i know sherman was like that but jamie is way better than that. And marisa tome has an oscar too why didnt she just pay it like a new character the gimmick was distracting woody and wonda are too talented to be impersonating old characters

  • My Inna' Peace Ministries says:

Wow, Jimmy didn't call her baby a fetus! He spoke as if the baby was a person! Interesting!

  • Martin Lawrence would have done well as George Jefferson too Re : George had some serious dance moves Similar to Martin on his show

  • Cody Higinbotham says:

If they keep doing live performances of two classic TV shows (an original and a spin-off) they should do: Perfect Strangers & Family Matters, Cheers & Frasier, and Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul
