HSU Recreation Management

HSU Recreation Management

The outdoor adventure recreation option of the recreation administration program at Humboldt state uses classes like this one, winter adventure leadership to help students grow and develop their professional skills . The main skills these students are getting are leadership. They’re out here they’re learning from leaders but they’re also taking it upon themselves to work within the group’s, work on their individual skills as well as the group skills. A lot of what students gain out of this is personal growth and awareness and being able to understand what’s going on in our natural environment that way we can better know how to survive in these situations comfortably and safely. Careers in outdoor industry involved working with groups of clients in Adventure settings, it doesn’t matter whether you’re climbing a rock base or whether you’re skiing a mountain or whether rafting a river or paddling an ocean, you’re always working with a group of clients, paying attention to their needs and once you’ve challenged yourself in an experience like this then as a professional you’re really prepared to work with clients and have some empathy for their situation. The outdoors is basically my favorite part about HSU. There’s just so much to explore here I mean I’m from Flagstaff Arizona and I’ve never seen a redwood before or the beautiful coastline that we have here and that’s opened me up to a whole new realm of outdoor adventure you know since I’ve been in the recreation program, I feel like I have a family here in humboldt county, you know and and that’s gonna carry on with me for the rest of my life and I don’t know what I would do if I hadn’t taken a rec class my freshman year you know
