Horror as woman wearing GoPro loses footing before plunging 50ft down waterfall – Today News


 The terrifying moment a hiker lost her footing and plunged 50ft down a waterfall was caught on her GoPro camera  Heather Friesen suffered 10 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a fractured scapula and some deep wounds after slipping on a wet rock at the edge of a cliff in Hawaii  The 26-year-old stopped at the waterfall during a hike with friends on the Ka’au Crater Trail  And footage captured on Heather’s GoPro camera shows the horrifying accident unfolding  The university student took a tumble hit the water below.    In the footage, Heather screams in horror while trying to swim to the river bank and clinging onto the rocks  A man can be seen rushing to her aid before helping to carry her backpack and taking her to safety  Heather, who is now a beach volleyball professional, recently described the 2016 incident on a podcast called ‘In the World of Female Sports’    She said: “The hike has waterfalls and we were on the first waterfall and I was up at the top trying to look over the edge and I got too close and I ended up slipping  “You can see there’s little trickle of water that was in the shadow that I didn’t really see ”  Recalling the incident, she said it felt like ‘time slowed down’ as she was falling  She said as she was airlifted to the hospital she thought about her Christian beliefs and her friends from church  She added: “When I was on the helicopter being airlifted out, it was the most peaceful moment of my life  “I kept repeating to myself God’s got me I’m going to be OK and that I’m going to play volleyball again ”  Heather described the accident as ‘the fall that changed my life forever’ as she said: “I found out there had been others before me who fell from the same spot and died, and I know that God saved my life that day ”
