Genoa Township: Open Space and Recreation

We’re standing in beautiful Char-Mar
Ridge Park in Genoa Township. This is one of our busier parks, actually. I think
it’s in part because of the location. Genoa Township has some wonderful parks
and an amazing trail system. A couple ways that I utilize our park systems is
I like to do nature photography so I’ll grab the camera and take off to one of
our parks or maybe over to Mud Hen Marsh up to Char-Mar and see what I can find.
See it through there? See its red head? We saw, like, lots of different type of birds and we saw
like weird trees and stuff We’re happy that the Beavers are here. They do
all sorts of great things for other animals around and they’re fun for
visitors to watch, but beaver like to stop the flowing water we’ve got this
beautiful pond that was built from built by a dam. There’s an outflow pipe in the
pond. The beaver hear that running water and they instinctively want to stop it
to keep water around their lodge which is on the other side of the pond, which
is causing a maintenance headache for our folks. They’re having to come out here
about every other day and unplug the outflow and so we borrowed a creative
solution from other folks who have done similar things and created a beaver
baffle made out of PVC pipe that doesn’t seem to, the beaver can’t figure out
where the running water is coming from and can’t plug it up. So, our folks no
longer have to come out here every couple days and unplug the pipe which is
a huge relief We have 18 and a half miles of trail and
just within genoa township but then keep in mind that those sections within Genoa
Township connect in with the trail system going north and going south so
there’s a lot of great public land around Genoa Township. We’ve got
Genoa Township parks, we’ve got City of Columbus land with Hoover reservoir, the
Army Corps of Engineers land- alum Creek and of course the preservation parks
parks including Char-Mar Ridge. Genoa Township is fortunate to have a
variety of parks and starting in the southern part of the township we have
Center Green Park, we have film Water Park with a wonderful fishing pond that
is stocked periodically, we have Freeman Road Park we have our crown jewel
McNamara we have the community gardens which not
only are our garden area but we also have an area up there where we have some
football our leagues and some soccer teams that go in and play in practice so
I would encourage you and your family to take advantage of our park systems our
trails and get out and really explore Genoa Township
