Dadventures: The origin story

Dadventures: The origin story

(wind howling) – What up? I’m Wade Holland, an adventure
mad man from Montana. I’ve been traversing the
wild west with my dad on an old-school meets
new-school travel series called Dadventures and that’s what brings us to Nevada. We’re road tripping the Lake Tahoe loop, a full-circle adventure that connects you to both mountain sports and mountain culture. And what’s really cool about this drive is that we’ll also be
exploring my family’s roots and visiting places that
mean so much to my dad. – [Dad] Your mom and I would
come up to Tahoe and recharge and our ancestors worked in
the Virginia City silver mines. – [Wade] So I’ll be
rounding out the experience by flying my mom out to surprise my dad. After all, it wouldn’t be a
Dadventure without my mom, so get your tissues ready. I told him to look for an Airstream. Can’t wait for his reaction. – What is this, Wade? – This is our base camp, dude. – What are you getting me into, man? – [Wade] This is
Dadventures, Origin Story. – [Dad] This is great, being back here where I first met mom. Great memories. One thing for sure, this
drive never gets old. – [Wade] Definitely. Hey take a look, what’s
that over there, dad? – [Dad] I think we’re
coming up on Zephyr Cove. – Now isn’t this ironic? – That’s an Airstream. – [Wade] Indeed, dude. (fire crackling) – Let’s toast a beer for everybody. – Tahoe.
– Whoo! – I can’t wait to hit
these slopes again, Wade. – See you at the end of the montage! Dad. – What’s montage? – Have fun, buddy! (80’s synth music) (slot machine chiming) (birds chirping) – Tahoe is good for my soul. All you need is trees, solitude. – Yeah, yeah, yeah, dad. More montage! (engine revving) Hey man, these hot springs are clutch after that full send in Tahoe, huh? – That was quite a montage. – How ’bout we give mom a call now, man? (phone ringing) – [Mom] Hello, what’s
Tahoe like these days? – Tahoe’s great. Some things never seem to change. – [Mom] I can’t wait to see
you guys when you get back. – Miss ya, honey. Sure wish you were here. (pool balls clacking) – Cheers to old-school
meets new-school, dude. – [Dad] I have been looking forward to this part of the loop. Wade, in 1864, our
Cornish mining ancestors came out to Virginia City because they had experience as
underground hardrock miners. So I guess you could say
our distant relatives helped define Nevada as the Silver State. – So wait man, our origin story is actually Nevada’s origin story? – For sure. I think it’s way cool. – [Wade] Definitely, man. – There’s Delta Saloon. Your mom and I spent some
time there back in 1975. – Mom just landed in Reno. She’s gonna meet at Gold Hill Saloon. Dad has no idea. This is gonna be an epic surprise. Buckle up. Pretty wild stepping back into our family’s footsteps today, huh? – Great history up here, buddy. – Definitely. – By knowing your past,
you better know yourself. – I think you boys need a drink. (in unison) Oh!
– [Wade] Whoa! – Jeez. Oh boy.
– Aw. I surprised you. (emotional music) – You guys knew she was
here the whole time? – She just showed up randomly. We didn’t know she was gonna be here. (applause) This road trip strengthened our family’s connection to Nevada and helped me see a
greater picture of myself. And while leaving Virginia City on our way back to Reno, I could see that more Dadventures are closer than they appear.
