Community programs at Children’s Specialized Hospital are extracurricular activities that cater to children with special healthcare needs Kids and teens can experience fun recreation and therapeutic programs at their leisure Adaptive aquatics classes are designed for children living with disabilities ages 3-10 years old The program promotes positive experiences with water and teaches swimming and water safety providing an opportunity for physical activity and social interaction The Martial Arts program for children living with disabilities between the ages 4 and 15 provides instruction with basic martial arts techniques and listening skills in addition to coordination of movement, balance awareness and strength The program offers positive peer interaction and promotes a sense of independence, confidence and belonging Children’s Lightning Wheels Paralympics Sports Club sponsored by Children’s Specialized Hospital is a sports team for athletes ages 5 through 22 that have a primary diagnosis of a physical disability Athletes participate in track & field, swimming, archery, table tennis and power vaulting and they benefit from gaining confidence, independence and belonging The Friday Night Fever Program is a monthly social and recreational program for teens ages 13-21living with disabilities providing opportunities to make friends, socialize access a variety of community facilities and just be a teenager The group meets monthly for bowling, movie nights, trips, game nights and more
