Campus Recreation at the University of Illinois

We have a tradition at for U of I with the wheelchair basketball program is that on your birthday you actually get to shoot a half court shot and if you make that half court shot practice is cancelled for that day. Well I like to eat a lot so Campus Rec is a really big part of me being here because I would be humongous because I love to eat. No one’s actually hit the shot, people have come close, but my birthday just last year I was able to take the shot. And everyone was kinda just messin with me, sayin ‘No, you’re not gonna make it, you’re not gonna make it” Campus Rec maintains all sorts of nice facilities so we’ve got a lot of options, a lot of open fields. One piece of very valuable advice would be to get involved. Like intramurals are great, they’re fun. A lot of people meet a lot of people through them. They have all the equipment I like. I get to play basketball with my friends, work out, maybe run a little bit. And they’re free for students so you just swipe your I-Card, go on in. And I took the shot and swished it, just put it right in and ran straight out the gym on this court and had the rest of the team follow me out and tackle me out in the hallway and we ended up having practice cancelled. It was one of the greatest moments in practice for us
