Hey everyone! Today we’re gonna meet Jen White. She’s the Director of Campus Recreation. Let’s go see what she has to say. Hi Jen, how are you today? I’m doing well. Can I ask you a few questions? Sure thing! So first, can I ask you, What is the Student Rec Center? And what is your role? Okay, so the student center is the main fitness center on campus. It is also the home of club sports and intramurals. It’s used as outlet for student recreation on the level of working out just personally and then also utilize the facility for team practices for clubs. We host some athletic practices. We occasionally host a gym class. You know, it’s to suit the needs of open rec time for the student body. So why might a student come to your office? Well, I oversee obviously the facility and all club sports. I do find that, you know, the main student interaction that I get is related to club sports. Also, I have about 50 or so student employees. So there is a lot student interaction with the front desk staff, the group fitness instructors, climbing wall staff. So usually my interactions with students are based on questions about starting a club. How do I join a club? I want to schedule a game for my club or a practice for my club’s/team’s event. Something along those lines generally what my student interaction is. What’s a unique service that the Rec Center offers that a student might not know about? Okay, well, you know and speaking of clubs. A lot of our club sports, I think go unnoticed here a little bit. We have an equestrian team and I don’t know if a lot of folks in Bloomsburg know. B.U. Equestrian We have a climbing wall, I think you know unless you walk in the building you sometimes don’t know that’s there. So I would say those are two notable things that maybe people wouldn’t know so much about. So let’s highlight the club sports team. Can you tell me a few notable accomplishments from our club team? Sure. In the recent spring semester of 2018, we had our men’s and women’s rugby teams both make it to the national championships in the sevens tournament in Denver, Colorado. They both had great fall seasons in the fifteens. Then made it again to the national level in their seven divisions. The men ended up finishing third in the country, which is you know really great and the women played in the open division. Which is a representation of Division One, Two, and Three schools. I believe they finished fifth. And in their division, division two, they were the highest placing team. Great! Thank you so much for all your information Jen. Thank you Hey Huskies! Be sure to check out our Student Rec Center, and don’t forget to B.U.
