♪ (Music Playing) ♪ So I did a landscape construction apprenticeship, and it was really enjoyable. I was an 18 year old, moved down to Sydney from Dubbo, and didn’t really know what I wanted to do. But it was so good for me, and it was tough going for the first couple of years, especially trying to balance out getting used to the training and all that, but it was really enjoyable. We’ve got a landscape maintenance business. I actually started it when I was playing footy. Myself and a business partner at the time started it off, and I’ve taken it over by myself now and it’s been really enjoyable. It gives me a break away from everything else going on in the world. ♪ (Music Playing) ♪ I was very focused on life after football. I sort of went to University as well and finished my trade early on, which was really beneficial. And finishing off my apprenticeship before I went full time as an NRL player was a huge bonus for me. And I guess I didn’t really know that I wanted to own a business until through my career, and once we kicked it off I really enjoyed it. It gave you that outlet away from football as well. And I enjoyed being busy, and a lot of the guys are the same. You know, you find guys that are pretty balanced away from the field, there’s a lot of success on the field. And that’s what happened for myself. Whenever I had something else going away from the field I started to play better football. So it was a no brainer for me to continue to do work experience or any courses and continue on with the business, because it just gave you that outlet. So I recommend an Australian apprenticeship, with what it did for me as a young guy, the opportunities, but also just time management and meeting new people and working as part of a team and learning off really experienced people. Yeah, it was a really enjoyable experience for me, and I think it set me up on my football career as well. I honestly think it helped me be a better player as well. ♪ (Music Playing) ♪ Some of the most successful people in Australia have come through starting an apprenticeship and rolling into the business world, and you can certainly make a massive impact on this world from starting in an Australian apprenticeship. ♪ (Music Playing) ♪
