AU Women’s Club Rugby

“Do you want to call it?” “Awesome, eleven, forty-five, fifty-one!” “Ball, ball, ball, ball, ball!” Hi, I’m Hayley Spillane. I’m a public relations
major. I’m a junior, and I play women’s rugby. “Ball down. My ball. With you, with you. Ball
down. My ball.” Women’s rugby has really taught me how to
be a team player and how to listen to other people’s points of view when I might disagree
with them. I have an amazing friend group. I’ve learned time management from being on
a club sports team. Just having a group of people, having something
to do three times a week every weekend, having that outlet to, if I’m stressed out with school,
I can come here and forget everything that’s going on back with academics and really relax
and have fun with my friends. I have learned about myself that I’m capable
of a lot more than I first think and I can really stick through things if I just keep
believing in myself and I keep going and I don’t stop. I think just finding that support system,
finding people, a release from all the work that you’re doing, a place where you can come
and be yourself. And this team really is my second family here at AU. I recommend getting involved with anything
on campus because that’s where you’re going to learn about what it takes to be successful
not only in what activity you’re doing but successful in school, successful in internships
and jobs, successful in life.
