Arlington Heights Park District – Gold Medal Video 2016

Playful. Playful. Peaceful. Active. Incredible. Invaluable. Beautiful. Magical! Invincible. Ask people what they do for a living and they
typically tell you their title and where they work, but that doesn’t really answer the question.
Ask anyone at Arlington Heights Park District the same question and you’ll hear one thing, we Impact lives! Graceful. We like that word IMPACT around here, in fact we like is so much
we made it an acronym to be the core of our guest services training. We’ve been proactive,
solutions driven and progressive since 1925 and here are just a few examples of what means
today. The youngest of our participants benefit because we repurposed existing space to use
as our 11th before and after school care site. Older kids are winning the fight against obesity
thanks to the alliance we spearheaded with eight other community partners. People of
all ages are enjoying new activities thanks to our major renovations to keep facilities
and parks AND we developed the first dog park in the area for those people who display the
bumper stick that reads, “My rescue dog rescued me”. We like to say, ” we put the unity in
the word community” and we think our stats back that up. All of that’s possible because
we go above and beyond in training and fiscal responsibility within a culture that from
the top down trusts and empowers employees to be the very best and of course in order
to check off every priority in our comprehensive plan we rely on partners like those who helped
pay more than $100,000 to renovate Festival Park, which is now fully accessible to citizens
with disabilities. Heck, we even take citizen involvement to another level. How many park
districts can say they solicited the help of first and second graders to design two
new playgrounds. Give the people what they want we like to say, but in the face of financial
constrant and space limitaions we have to find creative ways to increase revenue and
operational efficiency. To lower expenses while maintaining employee moral and the quality
of our programing and to equitably distribute the use of our acreage and facilities to better
serve our 14,465 rental users. Revenue enhancement, expenditure reductions and our stellar bond
rating combined to give us a healthy reserve to fund more than 13 million dollars of improvments
without burdening our operational budget or raising taxes. Lovable. Wonderful. Want to know what we hear at the Arlington Heights Park District do for a living? We impact lives!
