Adaptive recreation for autistic youth

One of the many programs we have here at Don Knabe Regional Park is our adaptive recreation. Most of the youth that
come and participate are in the autism spectrum. The youth come at 11:00 sharp. We do some stretching, get their body moving. We get their legs moving,
arms stretched. All the youth take a lap around the gym or two. Our last
class of the season was a football game which consisted of flag football and
the children develop the skills of catching, running and use their motor
skills in different aspects of the game. I encourage you to have your child or
your sibling, brother, and sister engage with whatever disability they’re
struggling with, to engage in Parks and Recreation. For more information you can
call your local park and check out to see what programs they have to offer.
Don’t be afraid, get out there, be active and have a good time
