Following last month’s vote, recreational marijuana is legal for adults in Massachusetts as of December 15th. Marijuana was already legal for medical use. The new recreational law says anyone 21 or older can possess up to one ounce, like this jar of weed, or up to 5 grams of concentrate. There will not be any place to buy recreational marijuana legally in Massachusetts until at least January 2018. That’s when stores that may look something like this medical marijuana dispensary — In Good Health — are scheduled to open. But stay tuned, state lawmakers may delay the start of retail sales, increase the tax rate or make other changes to the proposed law. But as of December 15th. you will be allowed to have up to an ounce of marijuana in public. You can’t smoke, but you can be carrying it. At home adults will be allowed up to 10 ounces, nine of which must be in a locked container. Also at home adults can grow six plants, up to 12 per household. The plants must be in a locked area, and must not be visible to the public. You can have an ounce of cannabis in the car, as long as it’s in a closed container. Doctors and police urge you not to drive while under the influence of marijuana.
